Designed to become everyone’s back yard, City Springs will be home to an active, public open space. In connection with the planned performing arts center, this area will be an inviting destination from morning to night in Sandy Springs.
Performing Arts Center
The Performing Arts Center is intended to become a creative common area where residents feel at home and visitors are welcome. The Center will serve as a gathering place for artists, audiences, students of all ages, businesses and community groups, providing a place to build community and empower creativity to take flight. The Performing Arts Center is approximately 50,000 sf with performance seating for 1,000 people. It contains one balcony and a main floor with removable seating. When not in use for a performance, the Center can accommodate cabaret tables, dancing and other special events. The room is designed to enable unused areas to be darkened, creating a sense of intimacy for smaller audiences. The 6,100 sf glass enclosed lobby can also function as a gallery or venue for receptions. A full-service bar is also part of the civic floor space adjoining the Center and Studio Theater.
Performance planners will appreciate the excellent sight lines, acoustics, lighting and technologies planned for the PAC. The facility includes a fly loft and orchestra pit, which can hold approximately 30 musicians. The back-of-house includes green rooms, dressing rooms, ample storage and loading space.
The Studio Theater is a 5,000 sf flexible space that can be configured to serve the community as meeting space, host small theatrical or musical performances, or accommodate corporate meetings and banquet-style events. The room will comfortably hold 250-300 people for a seated event. The facility will also feature excellent acoustics, lighting and other technologies.
The City Green park at the heart of the City Center plaza will contain ample green space for events and impromptu picnics. Shaded areas are also planned for a quiet game of chess or a good book, or simply a good vantage point to people watch.
Water Features and Fountains
City Springs will feature a number of water features inspired by the springs that give the City of Sandy Springs it’s name including gateway entrances and an interactive fountain for kids to play in. The walkway through the 4-acre City Green features a water wall and shade bosque, creating an inviting and dynamic feature for residents as they enjoy a leisurely stroll.
